#JGQuickWord: Assurance > Confidence

I’m going to start sharing a “quick word” whenever a certain message comes on my heart. Here’s the first #JGQuickWord of many to come:

Go into every project with assurance, not just confidence. - Anna Ruth Williams

Words from a great boss that have stuck with me since she said them and a lesson I learned through mistakes and achievements. In my line of work, we plan for everything, but the unexpected is bound to happen. That’s when experience takes over. Hear me out: Experience is your preparation for the unexpected. Instead of wanting to just “get there,” enjoy the journey and learn everything you can along the way, so when you do finally “get there”...you can STAY THERE.

I Gotta Praise & I Gotta Let It Out: New Job Alert!

JasmineGurley.com-Blog-Praise Report New Job Alert

I came up because God came through 🙌🏽

I’ve been in the home building, design & decor industries since I arrived in ATL six years ago. I went from being one of the best paid, first-year teachers in New Orleans to a 3-month UNPAID internship where I hustled for the only paid contractor position. I was promoted and later transitioned to my first salaried PR position in the industry. I later jumped into tech PR and drowned. I never knew a failure so tough to swallow. I continued freelancing until I decided to try in-house PR for the first time at a home accessories company - back to my bread and butter.

Well, two years later, God brought me to the top company of my industry. I’ve applied to THD at least 5 times in my 6 years in Atlanta. As a 5 year old girl, I would tell my parents I worked at the lumber yard on Rt 301 in Maryland😅. I used to help my mom decorate our house as well as friends’ and family members’ homes. I redesigned my bedroom - paint, decor and all - for fun lol. God is funny in how He brings things full circle.

This journey has been amazing and He is so so good. I made the mistake of positioning my job as my source, when it is just a REsource. God is my source! When I got that order correct, the peace He brought over me and the ways I SAW and felt Him work became amazingly clear. We can talk in detail offline 😁 Just know, He’s working modern day miracles alluhduhtime! I’m a witness and testimony! 🙌🏽

A Random Expression of Gratitude

I am grateful for...

1. God never letting me go, even when I momentarily let Him go.

2. #SaintJules, my mother, my confidante for the life she lived in her past that taught me so much about the present and future.

3. My Daddy for always having an encouraging word, rapping the 15-minute version of "Rappers' Delight" with me and passing on his cool on to me.

4. My younger brother MKG for surpassing my cool (therefore our dad's cool) and keeping the whole family on our toes with his creativity and curious personality.

5. My extended family in Maryland, DC and Welch, WV that love and support me through the distance; the line dancing and karaokee performances complete with beatboxing and air guitars; the storytelling and pointless arguments that pick up right where we left off whenever we are together.

6. My best girlfriends who inspire, motivate and keep me grounded... and listen to my fits :)

7. My best guyfriends who challenge my perspective, break guy code for me and are willing to protect me like the older brothers I never had.

8. North Carolina A&T State University for instilling pride in my biological history, school culture and responsibility to those who will come behind me.

9. My students and mentees for teaching me just as much as I have taught you and for being a guiding light to my life's purpose.

10. My mentors who have poured their wisdom into me (and connections into my phone contacts) and for being the voice of clarity in my whirlwind of ideas.

I am grateful for all my experiences, the people who contribute to them and lessons learned from them.
